Mahamrityunjaya Mantra for Healing

Lord Shiva as Mahamritunjaya

Mahamrityunjaya is the most powerful mantra for healing that I know of. Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is originally found in the Rig Veda as the Great Death-Conquering mantra. It is a mantra that has many names and forms – Rudra mantra, referring to the furious aspect of Shiva; the Tryambakam mantra, alluding to Shiva’s three eyes; and its is sometimes known as the Mrita-Sanjivini mantra because it is a component of the “life-restoring” practice given to the primordial sage Shukra after he had completed his tapas, his austerities. The Maha Mrityunjaya mantra is hailed by the Rishis as the heart of the Veda, along with the Gayatri mantra. It holds the highest place among the many mantras used for ritual, meditation, and healing.

Om Tryambakam Yajamahe
 Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam
Urvarukamiva Bandhanan
 Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat

We meditate on the Three-eyed reality
Which permeates and nourishes all like a fragrance. May we be liberated from death for the sake of immortality,
even as the cucumber is severed from bondage to the creeper.

Some consider Mahamrityunjaya Puja to be one of the most powerful yajnas mentioned in Rig Veda & Shiv Purana. It has the power to bring life back even to the dead. Mahamrityunjaya puja is performed for Lord Shiva to protect one suffering from illness or to avoid untimely death. Special emphasis is attached to Lord Shiva worship during this Japa and Yajna.. It also protects people from evil spirits or spells.

Mahamrityunjaya anusthana is specially performed when all other pujas or anusthana fail to give beneficial results to the individual.
