Mother Goddess as Yogini – Brahmacharini Ma
Tonight, the second night of the Moon (bright half) according to the Indian panchang. On Navratri Day Three, Thursday, October 15, 2015, we worship Durga Ma as the tapasvini, Brahmacharini Ma, who we also know as Uma Sati, who performed unthinkable austerities to become the consort of the Lord of Consciousness, Shiva, as predicted by the sage Narada. She holds her rudraksha mala in her right hand counting eternity, and a kamandal full of amrit, the Nectar of Immortality, in her left, dangling a lotus flower. She wears effulgent white cloth, and is noticeably barefoot. She is steadfast, unshakeable, and her pure consciousness manifests as ultimate love. In the Storytelling, she also exposes arrogance even in great beings such as that of her own father Daksha Prajapati. In this way Her worship is a remedy for anger, lust, and arrogance.
She may be worshipped with lotus flower and hibiscus, and the following mantra:
YA DEVI SARVBHUTESHU SRISHTI RUPEN SAMSTHITA
NAMASTASYAI NAMASTASYAI NAMASTASYAI NAMO NAMAH
KARPADMABHYAMAKSHAMALAKAMANDALU DEVI
PRASIDATU MAYI BRAHMACHARINYANUTTAMA
