Initiation of Disciples, Part 1

During the Kumbh Mela, Naga Baba Bir Giri Ji and four other Naga sadhus perform an ancient initiation, what is known among yogis as the the “sacrament of the five gurus,” the initiation of Naga Babas into the guru – shishya parampara. Establishing the guru disciple relationship, two new disciples are given the five “gifts” of the gurus, including the guru mantra, lingoti (loincloth), vibhuti (sacred ashes), the ochre cloth, and the rudraksha seed.
