Saraswati
Saraswati is the Mother Goddess of Creation. She is often known as Vagdevi, VAK DEVI, for she is Speech, Herself. From Her primordial articulation, not yet manifest, not yet sound, arises the Little Mothers, the Matrikas, from whom the creation proceeds.
Mother Goddess Kundalini, in Indian Tantric Tradition, sleeps in that most dense condensation of Saraswati’s “word,” to be awakened and then rises back towards the source of Her articulation. Following a path of revealed knowledge to the Yogi, Kundalini unites with her consort, Shiva, as the Yogi’s mind becomes clear and transparent.
So whereas Kundalini is a Goddess of Knowledge, her sister, and indeed mirror reflection, Saraswati is the Goddess of Articulation, of Speech, and therefore also of music, dance, oratory, the arts, and learning in general. The sound, ‘sara’ is an onomatopoeic expression, to flow (like water), sarasarasara sounds like, resembles, the sound of water flowing over rocks, meeting the earth.
